– Better Foods for Better Health

My Chocolate Chai Cookies, Chocolate-Covered Donuts, Thin Mints, Superfood Crackers, and Goatless Cheeses are all available on! This site has been a longtime favorite of mine — they source the finest foods from farmers & brands to offer both the greater LA area & Orange County fresh, local-made, artisanal food.

I love Milk And Eggs because they truly have changed the game in terms of buying groceries.

They are…

Well-priced: their prices are always low because there is never any waste, inventory, middlemen, complicated distribution centers, or large stores with real estate.

Convenient: order an item once, or subscribe to get weekly or bi-weekly deliveries. Subscriptions can be updated, paused, or changed anytime. Save on the process of ordering, buying, and picking up groceries.

Fast: all deliveries happen within 30 hours of the order being placed. They are even working on way to shorten this chain even more, allowing for delivery of some products within just a few hours!

Eco-friendly: their drivers have a more efficient route than individual grocery pick ups. Potentially save up to 80-90% on carbon emissions!

The company is even on a Quest For Zero, which is separated into several initiatives with the goal of minimizing all aspects of their daily consumption. Learn more here.

Italian Quinoa Meatballs

Since I was a kid, I always felt I had a special connection to the Italian culture, maybe because my middle name (my mother’s maiden last name) was Milano, Milano is in Italy, and growing up, I watched “Who’s the Boss” with Alyssa Milano and she is Italian! Additionally, my favorite food growing up was Italian food (and I think it still is).  I loved spaghetti, lasagna, parmesan cheese, cannoli, and especially Italian-style dressing.  In elementary school, when I’d cook my way through the Better Homes and Gardens cookbook with my mom, I learned the basics on marinara-making and throughout the years, I have improved my marinara (recipe is in the Yvonne’s Vegan Kitchen App).  These days, with  less free time due my busy schedule, I actually pick up a jar of my favorite marinara by Rao’s at Whole Foods.  Their Roasted Garlic version is absolutely delicious.  One thing, though, I refuse to purchase at the store are meatballs.  Normally, store-bought vegan meatballs have some sort of soy protein, who knows how much oil, mystery ingredients, and they just leave me unsatisfied.  I developed a quinoa meatball recipe that I’ve shared on my app, and it was actually born out ofmy veggie patty recipe.  It’s basically the same recipe, just in meatball form.  I could not, though, get myself to call it an Italian meatball because there is nothing Italian about it.

Lately, since I’ve been cooking more at home again, I’ve been on an Italian kick.  I took my original meatball recipe, used it as a base, and Italianized it using fennel seeds, Italian herbs, and as I created it, I even turned on my Pandora Italian Jazz station.  The end result, an Italian meatball recipe that I am so thrilled to share with you.  It’s one of my favorite recipes.

I was so happy that my friend, Vince Lia, who is 100% Italian, came into the kitchen to watch me make these and taste-test my Italian meatballs.  We even made Italian sausage!  I am happy to say, they are Italian-approved.  Thanks, Vince, for catching me on camera to show everyone how it’s done.  It was a blast making them with you in the kitchen!  If you don’t already follow Vince’s kitchen adventures on YouTube, I recommend subscribing!

So about the sausages, we tried frying the sausages, but found that baking them made for a better crisp texture, so ditch the oil, and make friends with your oven!  Your body will thank you for it!

Here’s the video, (click the photo) and below is the recipe.  I hope you try it and love it as much as I do!

Italian Quinoa Meatballs

Time: 1 hour

Servings: 40 meatballs

2 cups water

1 cup quinoa (will need 3 cups quinoa cooked)

3 garlic cloves, finely minced

1 onion, finely chopped

1/4 red bell pepper, finely chopped

3/4 poblano chile pepper, deseeded and destemmed, finely chopped (can sub with 4 jalapenos)

2 small carrots, peeled and minced

2 tsp oregano

1 tsp fennel seeds

1/4 tsp cayenne pepper

1 tsp garlic powder

1/2 tsp freshly ground black pepper

1.5 tsp celtic or Himalayan sea salt

1 cup parsley, chopped

3 cups spinach, finely chopped

¼ cup basil, chopped

1 cup oat flour (can substitute sorghum flour)

Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.

  1. Cook, drain and cool quinoa in filtered water.  Meanwhile, prepare the rest of the ingredients.
  2. In a large sauté pan, over medium heat, add the onion, garlic, bell pepper, jalapeno, and carrot and cook until onions are translucent.  You do not need any oil to sauté this mixture since the water from the onions and other veggies will seep out and will help cook the rest of the vegetables.
  3. Add the salt, pepper, cayenne pepper, oregano, fennel seeds, garlic powder, cook for about 2 minutes, then add the parsley, basil, spinach and quinoa. Stir well and cook for an additional 3 minutes.  Remove the pan from heat and add the oat flour.  Stir well until everything starts to bind together and the mixture cools.  If it doesn’t bind together right away, add filtered water, a tablespoon at a time, at most 3-4 tablespoons.
  4. Disclaimer: I recommend using gloves, or just have a slice of lime handy afterward because the hot peppers can burn your hands. Rubbing your hands with lime can help alleviate any burning.

Using your hands, form the mixture into meatballs, using 2 Tbsp of the mixture per meatball. Or a one ounce ice cream scoop. Line a sheet pan with parchment paper and place the meatballs onto the pan. Place the sheet pan in a 400 degree oven for 35 minutes or until crisp and browned.

  1. Add the meatballs into your cooked marinara sauce, top your pasta with meatballs, stuff your sandwich with meatballs, or smother it in a sweet and spicy barbecue sauce.

Makes 40 meatballs.

A Peach Cobbler For Stevie Wonder

The last pie I made was not a “pie” per say, but a cobbler. In some circles, cobblers made with pie crust and a filling are considered a pie, or really resemble a pie. My cobbler was a peach cobbler, and it had all of the makings of a pie—peaches tossed with sugar, a little cinnamon, salt, and flour. I poured the mixture into a pie tin and topped it with my cinnamon and sugar cookie-pie crust, brushed with a little coconut oil, sprinkled with more cinnamon, then baked to bubbly stewed fruit, golden perfection.

Let’s be honest, it definitely was not the prettiest, but in my book, that’s ok. As long as it looks like what it’s supposed to be, and more importantly, if it evokes emotions, excites the tastebuds, and contains functional ingredients, I am happy and my work is done.

This is the story of my very first Peach Cobbler, and it was made especially for THE legendary Mr. Stevie Wonder. SUpon receiving the order, I had never eaten or made a peach cobbler. So, I did a bit of research, delved into my recipe arsenal, drew a little picture, said a little prayer, snapped my fingers, mixed in some love, and voila—out popped my peach cobbler from the steamy hot oven. Served warm with vanilla ice cream, it was beautiful.

Now I call this special thing Peach Cobbler Pie. I have so much fun testing new recipes, and when I get it right, it’s so satisfying. Icing on the cake is when clients send me photos and tell me their feedback. It fills my heart with joy. This is why I love my job.

“Stevie loved, loved, loved the peach cobbler. It was a hit. Amazingly delicious. You must add to your menu list! it was the best. Not too sweet or soupy, not overly crusty, JUST RIGHT. I’ll order it AGAIN.”

The Perfect Mermaid Themed Birthday Party

When the beautiful inside and out Denise Vasi told me she was planning her daughter Lennox Mae’s 4th birthday party, I was so excited! Always one to throw a beautiful party with each and every detail on-theme, Denise, much like myself, loves delving into the details and I couldn’t wait to hear what she and her daughter were wanting. She is an amazing mom, and had asked Lennox Mae which cake designs she loved, and we took those ideas and brought them to life for this all-girls mermaid party in Los Angeles. Read her post here for some serious inspo on how to throw the ultimate mermaid party — it was amazing!

For the party, we made the mermaid cake and mini donuts. The cake was Vanilla Lemon with Raspberry Jam and the donuts were chocolate and plain with pink vanilla glaze and sprinkles. All of these sweets were, of course, vegan and gluten-free, and they tied in perfectly with the mermaid theme!

“Anyone who has baked anything knows that gluten-free, let alone vegan baking is an entirely different skill set. The fact that it has to be on theme, beautifully made and taste good is a whole other challenge.

Enter Yvonne’s Vegan Kitchen. There isn’t much to say except that the cake was DELISH and from the photos, you can see that it was magically beautiful. We opted to go for a cake that was larger than what we needed because Lennox Mae really wanted her cake to have mermaid scales.”

Denise Vasi,

A little behind-the-scenes detail… From a mere idea to Instagram-ready…

Party Details…

Location: Festoon LA

Decor: Fire and Creme

Tablescape Goodies: Meri Meri

Mermaid: Mermaid Linden

Kids Musical Entertainment: BopTilYouDrop

Denise started a blog recently called – it’s incredibly well-done and she’s got a following that’s now into celery juice since she started her maed celery juice challenge. Denise and her husband also just opened a new restaurant called My Little Dumpling. I’m so thrilled that they have vegan and gluten-free options!

Follow Denise on Instagram and her content on a nod to what makes a woman feel like she’s truly “made” it. It isn’t living a perfect life or being a perfect woman. It’s being healthy and staying true to your values. In short: It’s being the best version of yourself that you can be.
